COME AND JOIN HANDS!!!

Starting from 10th February to 25th February,2011for the first time in the state Capital, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Art celebrates the living traditions of Mahabharata with the epitome of an event of Art, Cultural and Literary event with a state of the art workshop exhibition cum sale, Bhim ki Rasoi for gastronomic delights,Chalchitra a Film and Audio-video show, cultural Performances, Academic sessions,  Lecture-demonstrations, and a very Special Transgender  Ritual Demonstration amongst others, Storytelling and singing performances.

IGNCA organising its mega blaster event of the year JAYA UTSAV come and experience the richness and diversity in culture and traditions from all the corners of the country. The event is going to start on February 10th, 2011 and go on till March 10th, 2011 at IGNCA CV Mess

Joining the festivity would be veteran poet and lyricist Gulzaar Sahib, Shyam Benegal, Dadi Padam ji, Dr. Molly Kaushal along with various experts from the designated fields sharing a single a stage.

During the fest come and join Shyam Benegal to enjoy Chalchitra where amongst others movies like A day with Shyam Benegal, Peter Brook’s Mahabharata, Maya Bazar by K.V. Reddy etc will be showcased. Also get a chance to do a one on one with none other than Mr.  Shyam Benegal himself to have an enhancing experience.
 For calm and serene evenings join Gulzaar Sahib for soulful literary evenings and international symposiums with Contemporary Expressions, Mahabbharta for Children and Gulzar and Pavan Varma:Yaksh ke Prashn etc to get a glimpse of the age old Mahabharta traditions in a new way.

Amongst various ritual demonstrstions like Draupadi Amman Cult from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Agni Nritya from Rajasthan we have a unique and first of its kind Transgender Festival, Aravan Thiruvizha. Giving a colourful and lively touch to the event will be Padmshri awardees and other national award winners giving cultural stage performances likeNalacharitam (kathakali), Chakravyuha, Ghatotkach-Badh etc.
The festivities, though, don’t end here, but continuing the traditional journey is a Master Craftsmen Workshop cum Sale of a variety of intricately designed items like Patachitra (Orissa), Madhubani (Bihar), Kavad and Phads (Rajasthan) and Tanjore Dolls etc. which is accompanied by an Exclusive Mahabharata Book Fair for anyone who wants gain more insight into the traditions of Mahabharata and its associated characters and incidents.

The objective is to showcase and understand the collective imaginary of a vast culture of Mahabharata with many contradictions and deviations operative vibrantly in different parts of the country, in fact signifying the richness of cultural diversity present in the Subcontinent.

Jaya Utsav aims at providing an exhaustive experience of the living traditions of the overwhelming epic, the Mahabharata. The sprawling lawns of the IGNCA, and its entire premises will all reverberate with intellectual, cultural and ritual demonstrations of the narratives within Mahabharata.
